At Wirrabirra Education Support Centre we value our students right to communicate. The school environment is engineered to support those with all communication needs. Our students have access to a variety of low tech (paper based) and high tech Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices. These include things like PODD books, Aided Language Boards, Core Vocabulary Placemats, Picture Exchange Communication Symbols (PECS), Key Word Sign (KWS) and Touch Chat, these offer a multi model approach to communication.
Our dedicated speech, language, and communication coordinator works one on one with students, supports teaching staff, delivers speech requirements to each class, and creates resources specific to individual student needs. Wirrabirra Education Support Centre works collaboratively with Speech Therapists to work towards common goals for each student.
